Nerium oleander 'Hardy Red'

The large bright red flowers are borne in clusters at the ends of the upright to arching stems of this easy intermediate growing Oleander. Considered to be the standard by which all other Oleanders are compared for cold hardiness, Hardy Red is known to withstand all that zones 8 and warmer can throw at it without batting an eye. It may freeze to the ground in zone 7 although it is known to return from the roots. Oleanders are extremely durable and reliable evergreen shrubs for mild winter climates and are especially well adapted to the mild coastal regions of the US. Salt tolerant, drought resistant, deer resistant, and adaptable to a variety of soil types although they do appreciate good drainage and seem to prefer a mineral soil over humus based soils.
