Cryptanthus 'Zebrinus' is an evergreen bromeliad with chocolate, variegated and white foliage. white flowers emerge. Grows well with bright shade - mostly shade and regular water. Does well in average and well-drained soil. A good option if you're seeking something heat tolerant, humidity tolerant and verticillium wilt resistant.

Cryptanthus are epiphytic bromeliads endemic to Brazil often called earth stars. They have strappy, rippled foliage with beautiful patterns. They make a great addition to houseplant or succulent collections. 'Zebrinus' has rich brown-black leaves overlain with waves and zigzags of white. Grow in moist, well-drained, sphagnum soils. Water regularly and provide high humidity in bright but indirect light.

This uniquely colored Cryptanthus produces a rosette of deep burgundy or nearly black leaves with irregular white cross bands. This easy to grow tropical looks great spilling from terra-cotta colored containers, in mixed container gardens, or as an underplanting for larger growing plants. Probably our favorite Earth Star! Cryptanthus are one of the easiest terrestrial bromeliads to grow. Provide with a well-drained soil, average moisture, and high humidity. High light levels ,but not direct sun, will produce the most intense foliage colors, colored forms may pale or even turn green under low light levels.
