Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A tropical shrub 3-5' at maturity, grown as a houseplant in colder climates. It produces the most unusual blossoms of pure white, as the outrageously long stames extend outwards making a shape like a music note. When they are fully open, they resemble a small white butterfly, flowering throughout the year. Sun to lt shade. Min temp 50 degees. Hardy zone 9-11
More interesting than the open flowers are the buds which look like pure white musical notes standing at attention in dense clusters atop the stems. The buds open at night to widely flaring pure white flowers with 3-4" long tubes and often last well into morning. This is definitely a plant for the patio where it can be enjoyed up close on a warm summer evening. Blooms come in waves almost continuously throughout the warmer months. Musical Notes Clerodendrum is slow to leaf out in spring and seems to wait until summer to do so at which point it immediately sets to making new foliage and flower buds. In some areas it may remain evergreen but has not done so for us. It has a naturally compact habit and makes a nice addition to the shrub border in mild winter climates but doesn't tolerate temperatures much below 30F. This is an excellent and easy plant for container culture as well.
