Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Calypso produces large clear hot pink flowers in large clusters for an exceptionally long period in summer. This is considered by the experts to be the most popular cultivar in the US and deservedly so as Calypso has excellent vigor, exceptional cold hardiness, as well as flower power. This is a large growing variety that can reach 15-25' high. Drought tolerant, disease resistant, and reliable. Calypso is considered by many to be even more cold hardy than Hardy Red, making it suitable for landscapes as far north as zone 8B. There is apparently a good deal of confusion (admittedly we were confused as well) as to whether Calypso is a red or a pink flowered Oleander. In this instance we have to defer to the experts at the International Oleander Society and folks like Rod Prejean to keep us on the right track as well as authors like Mariann Hamori and Andrea Hayek.
