Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Lilium hansonii is a fragrant species rare in cultivation, with thick, fleshy yellow flowers speckled brown. It prefers moist, dappled shade beneath deciduous trees and may vary widely in height depending on the winter. In Korea and Japan, it is known as "Gakeshima-Yuri". Known for hybridizing with Lilium martagon, it is a parent of the beloved 'Mrs RO Backhouse'.
A rarely grown species lily from the floristically rich mountains of Japan. This species grows to around four feet in height with racemes of nodding open flowers of bright yellow-orange with small spots in early summer. The strongly recurved tepals are very thick and fleshy – a really beautiful flower. The long and narrow leaves are arranged in whorls around the stems for a very symmetrical and distinctive appearance. Best in a well-drained but organic soil, sun or light shade.
Blooms:late spring-summer, whorled foliage, orange-yellow, red spotted, recurved blooms, strong grower/long lived Zone: 3-9. 3', China, part shade-sun, moist, well drained
