Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Large pure white mopheads are borne in late spring and summer on this beautiful old favorite. The flowers of Sister Theresa change to green and often to red by fall. This Hydrangea is a good choice for an east or northern exposure, or any mostly shaded position as it does not tolerate full sun well. Not considered to be reliably cold hardy north of zone 7 as per Dr. Dirr's trials at the University of Georgia but has long been a favorite of ours where it's white flowers glow against its own rich dark green foliage and a bed of dark green English Ivy. Sister Theresa Hydrangea's flowers are only slightly affected by soil pH. In an acidic soil the flowers may have the slightest hint of blue to the serrated petals and eye but are pure white in an alkaline soil.
Exquisite color and form for your gardening pleasure. Originally named Petite Soeur Therese De L'enfant Jesus and bred in 1947, Sister Theresa needs partial shade. The slender stems sport healthy dark green leaves and paper white flowers. This macrophylla is a delicate looking but strong medium sized plant. In the fall the flower heads become green tinted with red when ready to dry. This beautiful plant makes a season-long spectacle in your garden.
