Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Hardiness, Floriferousness (capital F!), handsome olive-like foliage, and bright-orange winter flowers (hummer heaven!) make this Western Hills intro one of the best Grevilleas ever. S/M-D
This Western Hills Nursery form is far superior to all others of the species. Extremely floriferous, this evergreen shrub reaches 6 ft or a bit more. The foliage is handsome and olive-like, lighter on the undersides, and the orange flowers brighten a winter day, for hummingbirds as well. Full sun, good drainage, and average summer moisture. As with all proteas, avoid fertilizers with potassium or phosphorous. Frost hardy to 15F, mid USDA zone 8.
Was named for our friend/mentor Marshall Olbrich from Western Hills Nursery (Occidental, CA). This cultivar has narrow foliage and a huge amount of burnt orange flowers in winter.
Silky gray upright twigs are attractively cloaked in long, silver-hued Willow-like leaves. Dangling from fast growing arching stems and favored by hummingbirds, the large showy clusters feature beak-shaped buds and richly hued, orange-red Honeysuckle-style flowers autumn through winter and sporadically throughout the year. One of the hardiest Grevillea cultivars, it can accompany Mahonia 'Charity' in a warm well-drained slightly dry spot.
RED HAZEL - ROYAL GREVILLEA - A medium growing arching evergreen broadleaf shrub hardy in zone 7b-10. Likes sun to part shade, growing 4-6' tall and 6-8' wide. Narrow silvery grey willow like foliage. Likes acidic well drained soil and does not need or want much fertilizer. Produces red-orange russet witchhazel like flowers summer thru fall. A very hardy grevillea. Hummingbirds love it. Resistant to deer. Plants are grown and shipped in 4.5" pots with growth approx. 10-12".
Red-orange flowers late winter-spring. Evergreen, Hummingbird fave, arching habit. USDA zones 7-10.
Native to both Australia and South America which means it's probably about 130 million years old and lived on the Gondwana supercontinetn! This Western Hills Nursery form is far superior to all others of the species. With blooms a lot like Witch Hazels and 3-4" long silver foliage that reminds me of willows. Be sure it's 'hardened' off good going into Fall -- start withholding water and fertilizer the way you might with Ceanothus that are on the edge of their hardiness. Plants should be kept on the dry side after being established in well-drained, *low phosphorus/potassium soil/fertilizer. A welcome food for the first hummers that arrive. Zone per Miller Botanical Garden -- article there worth a read! They list the species as a Great Plant Pick.

This outstanding and hardy plant originated as a chance seedling at the former Western Hills Nursery in Occidental, California. Named for the late owner Marshall Ulbrecht, it is listed as a form of G. victoriae but is obviously a hybrid of this species and something with narrower leaves. It is a very vigorous shrub to 10' or more with orange flowers which appear over a long period, and narrow grey leaves to about 2” long. It has the general aspect of Grevillea 'Poorinda Constance' but with larger flowers and leaves. Very hardy and adaptable, it ought to endure 5 °F without harm, will tolerate most soils and even a little shade. Australia.
Grey green leaves and an abundance of rusty red and orange flowers starting in winter. Evergreen shrubs 7' tall and wide.
Evergreen shrub with silvery leaves and arching habit. Flowers are red-orange occurring in autumn.
