Ceanothus griseus 'Atomizer' is a broadleaf evergreen groundcover shrub with gold, green and variegated foliage. In spring blue flowers emerge. Attracts bees making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with sun - mostly shade and occasional - low water. Drought tolerant once established. Prefers to be dry in summer. Does well in average, gritty, lean and well-drained soil. A good option if you're seeking something heat tolerant, seaside / salt tolerant and verticillium wilt resistant.

A Cistus introduction. This sport of the variable 'Diamond Heights' occurred in our garden, the leaves splashed with microdots of gold and green - no not a virus but really attractive. Given that, we dubbed the plant atomizer as the foliage indeed looks painted lightly with spray paint in various shades of green cream and gold. Only slightly less vigorous than the species. A superb container and/or garden plant preferring, for us, a bit of afternoon shade. Native of protected coastal climes, these should be protected below 15-20 °F. Tolerant of some summer garden water. Frost hardy in USDA zone 8b.
