Arctostaphylos hispidula 'Gasquet Jade' is a broadleaf evergreen shrub with green foliage. In spring and winter pink flowers emerge followed by red fruit. Features glossy texture. Attracts bees, birds, butterflies and hummingbirds making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with sun - mostly sun and occasional - low water. Drought tolerant once established. Prefers to be dry in summer. Does well in average, gritty, lean, rocky and well-drained soil. A Cistus introduction. This particularly small leaved clone reaches to 5' or more, eventually forming a scaley, red, arched trunk with tightly clasped, shiny green leaves of under 1/2" and, from winter to early spring, cheery pink flowers. Though more tolerant of summer moisture than most manzanitas, we still recommend low summer water in mineral soil and full sun. Frost hardy in USDA zone 8a.
