This “Flowering Maple” creates a bright spot in the garden! Lobed leaves are generously speckled with yellow and the dangling bell flowers (late spring to frost) glow in tangerine orange! Evergreen shrub (may die back to the ground in hard freezes) grows quickly to 4-5’ tall and half as wide here in the Pacific Northwest; larger in frost free zones. Attracts hummers. AM sun, rich moist soil.
Zn 8. Peach bell flowers. Variegated foliage.
This reliable everbloomer is adeptly suited for container culture with a compact, densely branching habit. 'Thompsonii' is accented by mottled yellow and green foliage and glowing orange flowers. A fast grower, it performs exceptionally well when used in mixed container plantings or cultured on that sunny winter windowsill. Best of all, even under lower light, it holds a full tight form. Also excellent for standards.
Masses of peach bells are set off by the yellow-spotted foliage. Potentially hardier than we once thought and, with protection or in sheltered locations, may survive winters in zone 8 areas of BC.
Thompsonii has mottled yellow and green foliage, an upright grower with orange bell shaped dangling flowers most of the year. Likes sun to lt shade.
