Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Originally found on Krk Island off the Yugoslavian coastline, Rusty Foxglove boasts distinctive copper-hued towers of bloom. Lanceolate, dark evergreen leaves form a handsome base for the tightly packed large, thimble-shaped flowers colored in cheerful yellows with rust accents. A powerful presence in the garden or in an arrangement, let its stately stance echo the vertical blades of Calamagrostis, while blue Aconitum provides glorious complementary color. Readily reseeding, this intriguing biennial will bring years of enjoyment.
A lovely variety of Digitalis ferruginea! The flowers are a pale yellow & have rust-colored veining in the throats. The bloom stalks can be as tall as 5’ & are tightly packed with flowers. Makes a great cut flower, albeit a tall one. Get out your big vases! The first year it will produce a rosette of dark green leaves & then bloom the second year. Cut stalks after bloom to encourage it to act like a perennial, otherwise it will set seed & return again as new plantlets. Plant in moist, loamy soil.
