Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Blooms: spring-summer, dark blue-violet Zone 3-9. 4", PNW, shade-part sun, moist, well drained
Native to the coastal ranges of Monterey, CA all the way north to Alaska, most of Canada & the northern states, this adorable little Viola is typically found growing in moist-to-dry meadows, so it's a bit flexible when it comes to water. Occasional Summer water is best. Darling lavender blossoms with deep purple veins & white bearding on the lower petals flourish March through July. Staying a petite 4" high & 12" wide it would make a sweet little groundcover sprinkled between Asclepias fascicularis, Aquilegia or Heuchera maxima in a CA native garden. For those on the Northern CA, OR & WA coasts, it's a key larval host plant for the threatened Oregon Silverspot Butterfly. Rich well drained soil.
