Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Fierce, fiery red winged pods dangle high above feathery bright green foliage, after a late-Summer bloomfest of small, sweetly scented pale yellow flowers the bees & butterflies adore. Found throughout Africa, from Sudan to South Africa where this feisty climbing/scrambling shrub is commonly used as security screening. Sprays of delicate grassy green leaves bare pairs of recurved, sharp hooks on the underside & at the nodes. Rope-like woody stems can reach up to 50' feet long, but are easily pruned into your desired size. Historically the bark was used to tan Moroccan leather giving it a red stain, in addition crushed leaves were used to make a dark red dye for fabric & fibers. The perfect plant to provide a wildlife habit for birds & other small creatures.
