Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A generous gift from our friend Mark Delepine (AKA serialplantfetishist) who bought this extremely rare Lobelia at a SF Botanical Garden sale, first flowered for him in 2006. Sadly the Botanical Garden lost its specimen the next year, but lucky for us Mark was recently able to collect seed. Dr. Suessy in form, this Guatemalan goddess quickly grows to 3' & then more slowly to 5'. Stems pop up individually, covered in whorls of leaves that look cool emerging from another plant. Flashy spikes of tubular mandarin orange blooms appear at the top of stems between the leaves, continuing to bust out new growth & flowers on old growth. Seems to flower year round, but heaviest early Spring through Summer. Can tolerate dry situations, but resents being moved around. Loved by hummingbirds! Rich soil is best. To 3' wide (we think).
