Exceptional: striking blue-grey foliage, honey-scented 1-2" creamy-white ?bottlebrushes? in spring, and bright red, orange and yellow fall color make this 5-6' shrub ?most impressive? (M.Dirr). S/M PP15490
This vigorous, blue-leafed shrub has honey-scented bottlebrush flowers in spring and has red fall foliage. It reaches 5-6 feet high and wide and is easily maintained, requiring little pruning. Of the blue-leaved cultivars 'Blue Shadow' is said to be the best.
Blue Shadow is an excellent replacement for the anemic Fothergilla gardenia 'Blue Mist'. It is even bluer, much more vigorous, and considerably tougher than Blue Mist. The shrub originated from a 'Mt. Airy' plant, and retains the dwarf and dense character of its parent.

Elegant blue, blue, blue leaves, rounded and, yes, blue! except in autumn when they put on a display of purple-orange-red. A compact, deciduous shrub, to 5' tall x 3' wide over time, with ivory flowers decorating the branch tips in spring. Enjoys full sun if water is plentiful; otherwise, light shade with consistent moisture. Frost hardy to -20 °F, USDA zone 5.
An exceptional blue leaved selection of Witch Alder, this multi-season shrub offers white honey scented bottlebrush blossoms in spring, glaucous blue leaves in summer which take on stunning red, orange and gold tones in autumn. It grows 3-5' tall and wide and prefers a somewhat moist, rich soil in sun or partial shade. 15-20" plants available for spring shipping.
Fragrant, white bottlebrush flowers spring, bluish foliage, orange, yellow & red fall, deciduous. USDA Zones 5-8
A vigorous fothergilla—excellent for the novice as well as advanced gardener. Our favorite trait is the powdery blue foliage. We love this new option for a 3-4' shrub. So lovely!

Found by Gary Handy, Boring, OR, on a plant of F. 'Mt. Airy'. The rich powder blue foliage will grow into an upright shrub to perhaps 6'. F. 'Blue Shadow' will grow in full sun as well as part shade and hold the rich foliage color all summer. Fall color is a rich tapestry of reds, oranges and yellow.
