Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Talk about tall dark & handsome. I have it in the worst way for this dark leaved Begonia & I bet I'm not the only one swooning. Shrubby & upright to 4' tall, the matte black leaves (or maroon-green, depending on where the plant is grown & how the light is catching it) light up cherry red when backlit & the whole gorgeous form of the plant is overseen by an ongoing show of 1" petite pink flowers. Gene! You're dreamy! Should you be lucky enough to bag one of these dashing specimens, please give him a shady spot with rich, humusy soil & be sure to protect him from any nasty frosts & freezes. A creation of Santa Barbara Begonia expert Rudy Ziesenhenne, 'Gene' was introduced in 1975.
