Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This medium-sized bee balm has performed exceptionally well in test gardens over the last few years. Great flower color, habit and exceptional tolerance to mildew have been impressive. Large flowers with reddish hues and pink undertones are a magnet to hummingbirds and butterflies but NOT deer!.

By: Deer Country Gardens

Fire Marshall bee balm resulted from a cross made between two of the best bee balms for Midwestern gardens, Monarda 'Marshalls Delight' and M. ‘Jacob Cline’. ‘Fire Marshall’ produces oversized flower heads in red with pink undertones on stems to 2’ to 3’ tall. Good green foliage, and high powdery mildew resistance during five years of trials at Chicago Botanic Garden. Typical of all bee balm hybrids, this selection is best grown in a reasonably moist yet well-drained soil in full sun. Note: like all bee balms, powdery mildew resistance can vary from one region of the country to another. This selection, like any other bee balm, should be trialed in your region first before widespread cultivation. Developed at the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe, Illinois.
