Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A nice display of small yellow ?trumpets? in summer, a compact stature (rounded to 3'), and a tolerance for drought and shade make this Morton Arb introduction a fine selection for low hedge or groundcover shrub. S-PSh-Sh/M
Selected from the collections of The Morton Arboretum, Lisle, Illinois, for its dense, compact habit, summer display of lemon-yellow flowers, and broad adaptability.  This deciduous shrub grows equally well in full sun to partial shade, moist to dry soils, and acid to alkaline conditions.  One of the few shrubs adaptable to dry alkaline shade.  Densely branched, it slowly spreads by suckers to form a nice groundcover, but is not aggressive in its spread.   The small honeysuckle-like flowers, produced in profusion in late June to early July and then sporadically into autumn, are nicely displayed against the dark green foliage.  Native to North America, this shrub is an excellent substitute for non-native honeysuckles (Lonicera) where the latter pose an invasive problem.  Excellent for the shade garden, as a low hedge or groundcover.
