Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A tough fall beauty...a floral train nearly veils the entire plant and lays claim to its name. ‘Bridal Veil’s stoic habit handles drought, salt spray and mildew. Blooms mid-September–early October.
A hybrid aster developed at Chicago Botanic Garden. This clonal selection resulted from a cross made in 2002 with the groundcover Aster ericoides 'Snow Flurry' as the seed parent. The pollen parent is unknown. 'Bridal Veil' produces fine-textured branches that initially are arching, and become horizontal, then pendulous, as the growing season progresses, resulting in a very graceful horizontal-weeping habit by the time the plant comes into bloom. Densely branching over time, the selection covers itself in tiny white flowers, with its peak bloom in early October. Taller than ‘Snow Flurry’, and denser growing than most other full-sized A. ericoides selections, 'Bridal Veil' will grow to 2 feet tall x 4.5 feet wide. Drought tolerant and powdery mildew resistant, but is susceptible to occasional deer and rabbit browsing, like all A. ericoides selections.
