Hosta 'Saint Elmo's Fire' is a medium-sized plantain lily appreciated for its bright yellow, white-margined, young foliage that ages to lime green. In bright light the leaves can lighten back towards yellow through summer or remain light green with its white margins in shadier conditions. Leaves become lightly corrugated on established plants. Mounds will reach 18 inches tall with a 45 inch spread. Pale lavender flowers emerge in midsummer on 24 inch tall scapes. Awesome as a focal point, understory plant, mass-planted ground cover, and in the container. Tolerates heavy shade and proximity to black walnuts. Attracts hummingbirds and bees.
