Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This paradoxical coneflower is the only species in the genus Echinacea to have yellow flowers instead of the usual purple. Large, daisy-like flowers with drooping yellow to orange-yellow petals and very large, coppery- to chocolate-brown central cones. Smooth, lance-shaped, dark green leaves. Full sun, average to poor dryish soils.
This rare beauty looks like Pale Purple Coneflower draped in gold. Butterflies flock to the flowers of Ozark Coneflower, and birds love the seeds! Plant it with the other coneflowers for an Echinacea Extravaganza! Native to the prairies of Central Missouri, Ozark Coneflower has proven itself hardy to Zones 4 - 7.
The paradox here, of course, is that this is a purple coneflower with yellow flowers. Not a common species, this plant is perhaps best known for its hybrids with the more usual purple flowered species, the result being all those new orange and yellow and scarlet varieties.Despite the fact that most of those said hybrids are short lived and rather whimpy, this is actually a pretty good garden plant. No Echinacea is going to rival peonies for longevity in the garden, but this one isn't too bad. Zone 5.
An outstanding perennial from limited areas of the dry prairie, this tall-growing (to 3') coneflower produces large, showy fl heads with 3" bright yellow rays surrounding the dome of the chocolate brown center. SUN/Med-Dry
