Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Orange, trumpet shaped flowers in early summer that are adored by butterflies and hummingbirds. Followed by orange/red berries in the fall. This lovely vine is naturally found growing along forest edges and amid thickets.
The best of the native climbing honeysuckles is our regional orange, or trumpet honeysuckle. It is widespread in open woods on both the east side and west side of the Cascades. Orange Honeysuckle attracts hummingbirds and other wildlife. This honeysuckle runs freely on the ground or clambers up trees, sometimes reaching a length of 18ft. Its native range is throughout Washington and British Columbia, south to Oregon, east to Montana. Its habitat is open to rather dense woods, low to me-elevations in mountains. The British seem to be ahead of us in appreciation for our American native plants. Orange honeysuckle won an Award of Merit at a British garden show in 1919.
Blooms: spring-summer, orange, trumpet, / deciduous vine, loved by hummingbirds Zone 5-9. 3'-5', PNW, part shade-sun, moist, well drained.
Scrumptious clusters of 1.5" long trumpet blooms in tangerine orange appear in late Spring on this West Coast native (British Columbia south to California, east to Montana & Utah). These beauteous blooms evolved to attract rufous hummingbirds. This isn't your aggressive smothering honeysuckle type either, she's more of a delicate creeper growing 10-30'. Pretty crawling through shrubs. With nothing to climb on in it makes a great groundcover. Pretty red berries & green, 4" long oval leaves have hairy edges, hence the species name ciliosa (lots o' cilia or hairs). Well drained soil. Winter deciduous.
