Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This outstanding upright tree has a beautiful rounded crown 55' x 45'w. A wonderful seedless hybrid between the Red Maple and the Silver Maple which was chosen for its superior growth rate, strong leader and perhaps most of all for its rich autumn color of spectacular reds, oranges and yellows. This hardy, easy-going cultivar is also resistant to frost cracking. S/D-M-W
'Marmo' was selected from the collections of the Morton Arboretum, Lisle, Illinois, and named in honor of Margaret Morton. Characteristics include a vigorous growth rate, a strong central leader, excellent branching character, and a uniform upright habit. Fall color is an interesting mottled blend, ranging from combinations of red and green to burgundy, yellow, and gold, depending on temperature changes and site conditions. While the fall color isn't as reliable as some freeman maples, 'Marmo' is claimed by nursery growers to have a superior habit, branching structure, and ease of growth and pruning. 'Marmo' is a naturally occurring hybrid between red and silver maples and is being promoted as a more ornamental and desirable alternative to sugar maple, and a more adaptable alternative to several cultivars of red maple for heavy clay soils.
