?Grand in its trunks [up to 5' diameter and 80-100'], colorful in its bark [bright red-brown plates]? (Peattie) with long 6-9" needles in 3?s and a high content of perfumed resin and turpentine in its wood... a fine tree. S/M
Loblolly Pine is a Southeastern native species that is tolerant of high heat and humidity which is unusual for Pines. Unlike with most species, Loblolly Pines are also partial to wet soils and will grow in poorly drained clays. Their habit is open and the canopies of even mature forests allow dappled light to the under story, where as most other species tend to produce dense shade in mature stands.
This fast growing native tree is good for quick evergreen screening. Large and impressive given time and space. Grows 10-15' in ten years. A timber pine in the South.
