Nursery contributed plant descriptions

With fragrant green-yellow flowers "the color of pale spring sunshine" (Peattie) and handsome dark-green foliage on a nice broadly spreading oval tree to 30-50', leaves turn a brilliant orange to red in fall, large, mahogany, shiny and lucky (though poisonous!) seeds were reportedly called "hetuck" by the Native Americans meaning 'eye of the buck'; the state tree of Ohio. S/M
Medium to large tree of rounded shape. Attractive foliage is sometimes affected by disease; fall color is variable, from yellow to orange mixed with red. The selection 'Autumn Splendor' offers consistency of fall color, disease resistance, and smaller stature.
