Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The most striking horse chestnut of all with its huge leaves as long as 16" which are attractively veined, this large tree (80+') has creamy flowers with lovely yellow and pink throats on stalks up to one foot that appear later than the common horse-chestnut; native to the moist slopes of the Japanese deciduous forests, the nuts have traditionally been leached and used as a food source by the Jomon people of Japan. S/M
Small tree 10-20 feet tall. Lovely large trusses of white flowers. Lustrous dark green foliage. Good in full sun, but will also grow in light shade, for example at the edge of the woods.
