Fast growing suckering shrub or tree from Japan and Asia with attractive, velvety lobed foliage used to make paper or Tapa cloth. Our thicket is about 30’ tall and 20’ wide after 20 years. We have not seen any seedlings so assume our stock is male This seems to be quite tough, not fussy about soil or water... should grow where other things won’t in sun to light shade. Drought tolerant, deer resistant. It has a nice architectural and textural appearance.
