Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Irregularly margined with both grey-green and creamy-white, these narrow tapering tricolor leaves make a lovely mounding (to 12" high) groundcover for a shady area; 3' scapes of pale purple flowers appear in mid-summer. PSh/M
Hostas are one of the most popular perennials for shade and bring an incredibly beautiful array of color to any garden. In early to mid-summer, spikes grow from the center of each crown which produce large trumpet shaped blooms for up to a month. On 'Albo Marginata' the flowers are large and pink and look especially good in mass planting or on long borders.

Plant your hosta in areas with well drained soil. If your soil does not drain well, consider adding five or six inches of topsoil or compost to form a raised bed and planting in that. Fertilize in early spring as the new shoots are beginning to emerge from the ground to encourage strong growth. If you have problems with slugs, plant your Hostas a little farther away from other plants (around 18 inches away) and add shredded bark mulch each year to discourage slug travel.
Perennial for shade. Green, wavy leaves are edged with white. Lavender flowers arrive in mid-summer.
