Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Unusual, airy, almost fern-like foliage on this 2' wonderful compact mound that will spread somewhat by suckers, beautiful in all seasons with its apricot colored new growth, bright green summer leaves and brilliant crimson in the fall; leaves and berries are toxic. S-PSh/M
Nandinas are used all over the west and south as an easy utilitarian plant. The difference here is the size and texture. N. d. ‘Filimentosa’ will get to 18”. The evergreen leaves are thread like and thin.
Filamentosa' is a dwarf cultivar with a mounding habit. It has unusual, deeply cut, lacy, narrow foliage that is reddish when emerging, bright green at maturity and an intense purplish-red colour in the fall and winter. Clusters of small white summer flowers give way to bright orange-red winter fruit. Not a bamboo at all but a non-invasive relative of Mahonia, the Oregon grape. Nandinas are incredibly versatile and useful evergreen shrubs with great foliage interest. Full shade right up to full sun!
Extremely dissected, net-like leaves are airy and delicate. This is unusual and a slow grower but so worth the wait. Just think of the tiny flowers you can plant beneath to be viewed through Filamentosa's netted foliage - perhaps a small Primula, violet, a moss, or an oxalis such as Purple Shamrock (Oxalis regnellii var. triangularis) - precious. 2' x 2' Minimum temperature: -10?F
