Got a moist to wet spot where other perennials don’t thrive? Softest shade of buttery ivory infuses these globe flowers topping 18-24” stems late spring to early summer, often repeating for us later in the season. Well behaved narrow clumps for sun to light shade, good garden soil & consistent moisture. Heirloom.
Very pale butter-yellow (the Swiss call them "butter balls"), semi-double, bowl-shaped flowers bloom from bronzed buds in late spring and early summer. Toothy, lobed, dark green leaves shine below. It's clumping, upright, and compact, and will tolerate somewhat heavy soils. In cooler climes it can take full sun if watered well. Minimum temperature: -30 °F
Reminiscent of Mother-of-Pearl or King Tut's alabaster vessels, the light creamy white color that imbues these large blooms brings a quiet elegance to the garden. Layered chiffonlike petals embellish stylish cup-shaped flowers, while below deeply chiseled, green glabrous foliage grows into an attractive, moisture-loving basal clump. Developed by George Arends some sixty years ago, this exquisite cultorum hybrid can be intermingled with the chartreuse sprays of Alchemilla mollis 'Auslese'.
The rare and gorgeous pale colored version of this European native, which can be found in the Swiss Alps, where they are called "butter balls" ("Ankeballe" in Swiss-German). Numerous flowers open from bronze-tinged buds to approx. 1-1/2", pale yellow at first, maturing to alabaster. Despite that they are closely related to buttercups, they are strictly clumping and we haven't encountered a single seedling in 10 years. They need at least average summer moisture and will grow in boggy areas as well.
Mother-of-pearl, palest-yellow-alabaster-white globe flowers enchant in spring above a 1-2' mound of deeply-divided foliage; a lovely and somewhat elusive addition for pool or bog garden. S-PSh/M-Wet
