Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This picturesque, twisted pine clings to a narrow range of the foggy California coast from the Channel Islands to Baja. These 30-70' beauties grow nestled in groves of interlocking twisted stems with dense dark-green foliage and whorls of humpbacked cones. The cones have evolved to be fairly squirrel proof requiring fire to get them to release their treasured seed. This is a wonderful tree for dry, rocky and coastal sites. A great specimen for native gardens, wild populations are in decline. S/M-D
