Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A rare and distinct pine similar to the Jeffry and Ponderosa pines (there is some debate as to whether washoensis is a separate species or a subspecies of P. ponderosa) its most distinguishable variance is its much smaller cones, these majestic pines can reach up to 180' (60-100' in cultivation); some of the populations of this tree occur in the Lassen Volcanic region of California and on Mount Rose in Nevada; it has the wonderful vanilla scent associated with P. jefferyi and was named for the Washoe Indians.
