Forsythia 'Arnold Dwarf' is a broadleaf deciduous groundcover shrub with green foliage. In spring yellow flowers emerge. Grows well with sun - mostly shade and regular water. Does well in average, rich and well-drained soil. A good option if you're seeking something for erosion control.
Unlike most Forsythias, which are more upright shrub forms, this cultivar forms a mounding groundcover just 2-3' tall but wide-spreading to 8'! Though it is not free flowering as some, its bright green leaves make it an attractive planting for walls or as a bank cover. S/M
From a 1941 cross-made at the Arnold Arb between Forsythia x intermedia and Forsythia japonica var saxitilis this is a great cover for banks but does not flower well when young.
A hybrid of F. x intermedia and F. japonica var. saxatilis. A few yellow-green flowers may appear on young plants and become more abundant as the plant matures, generally 5-6 years. Finely serrated bright green leaves on arching branches. Growing to 3' high and 7' wide with a creeping habit and rooting along the branches, makes this a good groundcover, or erosion control on slopes.

Small yellow flowers on prostrate arching branches. Can be used as a 'tallish' groundcover for large areas or erosion control as it rarely tops 3' and yet spreads twice as wide. Fast growing. Holds foliage until late in Fall. Best in full sun but tolerates part shade fine. Doesn't bloom as strongly as tall forms BUT if what you needs is a low, wide-spreading form with thick foliage (that takes air pollution - roadside planting), it's one of the best.
