Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Native to Southern Oregon and Northern California, this multi-stemmed evergreen shrub grows in full sun to partial shade, well-drained soils, and is very low maintenance after the first year. Dark green leaves with contrasting young red bark will create seasonal interest year-round. Red berry fruits turn whitish yellow to red to black, giving the appearance of coffee beans. S-PSh/M-D
A native, this chaparral shrub comes from the dry slopes and woodlands of Southern Oregon and Northern California. A fast-growing evergreen, it can soon be 10' tall and used as a hedge or screen, or low and spreading depending on where it is planted. When sheltered it can grow to 26 feet wide! Feel free to judiciously prune. The contrast of the young red bark and lustrous dark green leaves is handsome indeed. Small yellow-green flowers spring from the leaf axils and the resulting conspicuous fruit goes from light yellow to red to black. Minimum temperature: 0 °F
