Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The dainty, feathery, pinnate foliage emerges a soft, copper color before maturing to bright-green. Unusual, small, star shaped, bright-yellow flowers hang in 15" panicles; when the flowers drop you have a 'golden rain'. Flowers become showy, curious, balloon-shaped, tan colored, seed capsules. These all serve to make this attractive 30-40' and equally wide spreading tree distinctive. Tolerant of air pollution, making it a good tree for urbans sites. S/M-D
An extremely drought tolerant tree with bright summer color, Golden-rain-tree (also often spelled 'goldenraintree') is fast growing and requires almost no care. In fact, it tends to do better without care and is great for that corner of the yard that you hardly ever get around to working on. While the flowers are quite beautiful, the real interest comes in the fall and early winter with the seed pods which are shaped like little paper Chinese Lanterns. These seed pods make Golden-rain-tree so decorative that trees are often used to line paths and walkways in parks and botanical gardens where they can be appreciated up close.

A dense, rounded tree with a spreading haibit. Bright yellow flowers in mid-summer are followed by interesting papery seed capsules. Compound foliage is green, then turns to a golden-orange color in the fall. Very adaptable to poor soils and adverse environments. Growth Rate fast
Attractive as a landscape tree for its bright golden summer flowers that stand erect above the distinctive foliage. Flowers mature into clustered, papery "Chinese lantern" seed capsules, which droop from the branches mid-summer through autumn. Like its close relative Xanthoceras, Goldenraintree seems to do best if it is somewhat neglected. It performs well in alkaline or dry soil, and it tolerates heat well.
Golden Rain Tree is a medium sized flowering tree in the Sapindaceae Native to china and Korea. Noted for its large panicles of bright yellow flowers followed by inflated seed pods..
Bright golden summer flowers mature into clustered, papery 'Chinese Lantern' seed capsules from late summer through autumn. Zones 5 - 9.
