Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Rosa filipes is a giant rambling rose that can reach heights of 60 feet or more and is able to climb into large trees. It blooms in mid June with large clusters of single, pure white flowers with yellow stamens. It has a lovely, strong, musky fragrance that will fill your garden. The flowers are followed by attractive orange-red hips. Our plants are grown from seed collected from our owner Gary's garden where his plant has been growing to heights of more than six storeys for over 20 years. This species is most famous for the cultivar 'Kiftsgate' which is the largest rose in Britain and said to be the bramble and thorn that inspired the fairytale growth that swallowed Sleeping Beauty's castle. Our plants seem very similar to this famed cultivar.
Immense heads of up to 100 small, fragrant, creamy-white, yellow-centered, single flowers grace this amazing rose in summer. Extremely vigorous (15- 30') climbing/scrambling rose has stiff upright stems with many large thorns. Blooms are followed by a fine show of ½" red hips. One needs a large space to grow this rose and it is often planted to grow up trees. S/M
