Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Considered to be the brightest gold of the thread-branch Chamaecyparis, this dense slow-growing shrub is wonderful planted in a group with other dwarf conifers, especially blue ones. S-PSh/M
Golden Mop False Cypress is a stunning evergreen with stringy yellow foliage that colors best in full sun. It is perfect for Asian gardens, adds beautiful color to any area. Golden Mop False Cypress adds a big visual impact to the garden.
Also known as 'Golden Mops.' Thin yellow string-like foliage mounds with a semi-weeping habit. The mound form becomes more upright in established sites. Bright yellow summer foliage brightens in winter, but can burn in northern climates.
Gold Mop' or 'Golden Mop' Threadleaf Cypress has long drooping foliage that forms a bright yellow mop-shaped shrub. Regular pruning can keep plants as small as one foot tall and two feet wide, otherwise plants can grow 2-3 feet tall and up to four feet wide. The golden color is best in full sun but will still shine brightly even in dappled shade. These plants are very cold tolerant and thrive in a wide range of conditions, from raised bed plantings to rock gardens. Once established Gold Mop is drought tolerant and has done very well with the dry heat we have here at our nursery where other conifer shrubs suffer.
Gold Mop Cypress grows well in containers when planted in well drained soil, for best results use the growing mix recommended in Potting Soil Mix Recipes. Prune in the summer if needed or let the plant do its own thing, when pruning cut back into new foliage for best results. Use Gold Mop Cypress as a border plant around larger specimens and to provide good color contrast. Plants look their best if spaced about five feet apart so that there is space between each one to showcase their rounded form.

Slow growing plants like this are often available in 4' pots as a cheaper alternative to one gallon plants. This size is ready to plant in the ground or grow on in containers, for best results you should pot 4' sized plants into at least a two gallon container and fertilize each spring with a slow release pellet such as Osmocote.
Whip-cord-like branches with golden-yellow scales form a bright, evergreen, cascading mound, 3–5' x 3–5'.
Very nice, dense-growing selection which retains its bright yellow foliage throughout the year. Slow and low growing, it will form into a mound. Looks wonderful when planted with other dwarf conifers, especially those with blue foliage. Growth Rate slow, 3-6" annually
Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Golden Mop' - A ground hugging mound form of False Cypress that is truly mop-like, with stringy leaves that color best in full sun. Superior accent plant among other dwarf green conifers. Tailored to rock gardens and slope plantings as well as Asian garden schemes. Evergreen.
This very different plant has pendulous, thin, golden, whip-like leaves and branches. The plant itself grows into a haystack-like mound. Has a soft look and feel about it that is missing from many other conifers. A delightful plant, and one of our favorites for many years. Considered a dwarf (in comparison to it's larger growing relatives) but will make 3-4 feet of growth in ten years and can grow 10 foot or more given enough time and space.

Probably the brightest yellow threadbranch available. Really does look like a mop with its long, thread-like foliage. Best with afternoon shade from hot summer sun.
Mounding grower with bright yellow thread like branches. This plant is much more gold than 'Gold Thread'. A graceful evergreen with delicate branches. Will take shade, but is best in full sun. Use as a focal point, specimen, entranceway, or foundation shrub. A true dwarf form.
