Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The Snakebark Maple displays green stems with long white stripes running from node to node, and even older trunks feature distinctive striping patterns too. It is native along the northeastern United States where it often grows as an understory tree. These are best planted in shade gardens in groups, but are also popular for bonsai or pruning into a mini-tree.
A North American native that normally grows as a forest understory companion to beech and maple. Also known as "Goosefoot" Maple, it has striped bark, large leaves, and bright yellow fall color. Generally small in size, it prefers shade and may range from a large shrub to 40', depending on conditions.
The beauty of this small stripe-bark maple "is sufficient excuse for being" (Keller)--in spring it's clothed in misty rose buds ; graceful clusters of small yellow flowers; moose, however, enjoy its shoots! PSh-Shade/Med
