Typha minima is a semi-evergreen perennial aquatic grass (or grassy in appearance) with green foliage. In summer chocolate flowers emerge followed by brown fruit. Features grassy texture. Attracts birds. Grows well with sun - mostly sun and standing water water. Does well in average and clay soil. A good option if you're seeking something verticillium wilt resistant.

Known for their familiar cylinder-shaped felted brown spikes, the larger, native species were commonly used by Native Americans for baskets and shelter. In recent years the cattails of certain species have been used to filter polluted water. Blue-green blades are slender, upright to 18? high with 1? cattails. Thrives in standing water or perennially moist situations. Exceptional choice for water features in full sun or part shade. Hardy to 5F. Japan.
Zones 3-9 in sun to part shade. Grows a mere 12 - 18 inches tall and likes moist soil or up to 3 inches of water.
