Nursery contributed plant descriptions

(VARIEGATED JAPANESE IRIS) Beautiful, smallish Iris for your 12-18” tall fans of curved evergreen leaves striped with cream in stoloniferous clumps. Flat, upward facing orchid like white flowers edged with ruffled lacy edges, outlined in purple and accented with yellow gold, May > June (shy bloomer but foliage alone makes it worthy!). Prefers partly shaded woodland sites in moist soils. Z7
One of the most attractive variegated Iris, the dwarf extremely stoloniferus plants hold their variegation well, it is shy flowering but an incredible clumping foliage plant, flowers are gorgeous intricately marked flat affairs. ZONE 7
A clumping evergreen perennial. Fans of green and white striped sword-like leaves form dense clumps. In Spring to Summer sprays of delicate pale blue to white, small, crested, iris flowers are produced. Probably the easiest to grow of all the variegated Iris. Almost as tough as the original but does require a little more T.L.C.

[Syn.:I.kaempferi] The show starts with rich purple flowers, then about mid summer, the leaves become shiny and heavily cream variegated. Likes most soils, not too dry and grows in water.
