This improvement over Penstemon 'Husker Red' was developed by Brent Horvath at Intrinsic Perennials. In comparison, 'Pocahontas' has much darker foliage that emerges wine purple and keeps its colour much better through the summer heat. The flowers are lavender-pink rather than white and the stems are burgundy-red.
The Pocahontas has showy clusters of lavender pink flowers with red stems.
An Intrinsic Introduction! Burgundy foliage emerges in spring quickly followed in June by 3-4' burgundy red stems, holding loose clusters of purple pink flowers. An irresistible combination judging from the womens reaction when we had it blooming near the office. The hummingbirds also had a taste and find it equally appealing. Plants prefer full sun, and well drained to rich soil. PPAF
