Nursery contributed plant descriptions

It is beautiful and fragrant, this large clematis blooms later than its cousins Rubens and Grandiflora by a couple of weeks. The aroma is said to be that of hot chocolate! The first time I saw this in a landscape was at Chanticleer Garden. it was climbing up, more like dancing along, a large, open conifer. Might have been a Spruce. it was a lovely display well after the other montanas were past peak. China, 1909
