Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Has bright reddish pink striped flowers in April. The fall foliage is brilliant red in October.
Gorgeous creamy-bells are striped with red that bleeds out to the petal edges giving the lovely blossoms a red glow. This elegant 6-10' multi-stemmed shrub produces large flowers in late spring putting on quite a show. Deep, dark-green, summer foliage is followed by stunning red-to-orange fall color. This is a delightful specimen shrub; best in acidic soils. S-Sh/M
'Showy Lantern' is a compact, slow growing selection made some years ago by Ed Mezitt of Weston Nursery in MA. Growing to 5' tall and 3' wide, this durable shrub bears heavy clusters of pinky red bell shaped flowers which emit a soft fragrance in mid-late spring. Fall color can vary; this past year our plant was aglow in shades of orange and gold. After the foliage drops it has a graceful winter silhouette. Enkianthus are deer resistant and prefers a slightly acidic soil, but has proven tolerant of a wide range of soil conditions.
This upright, deciduous shrub has green leaves that turn to bright reds & oranges in the fall. The bell-shaped flowers are bright red, blooming in late spring.
This cultivar sports deep PINK flowers and dense branching from the ground up. Summer foliage is dark green and the leaves turn scarlet come fall. A superior clone, but less hardy than the species. Individual blooms resemble those of Pieris which is the same family, that of Heath. Native to Japan.

I've nothing bad to say about Enkianthus. Ok - deer munch them but then what don't they? Fairly narrow vertical aspect with hundreds of pink small bells in late spring which beautifully carpet the ground as they fall. Great bee food. Low maintenance. Great red fall color in sun.
Large deep velvety red flowers in May to June. Glorious fall color as is characteristic of most Enkianthus. Shrub 6-10' tall.
One of the finest red-flowering selections to date, yielding a lavish display of cherry red flowers in late spring. Fall color can be very impressive, usually in stunning red and orange tones. Combines well with other ericaceous plants such as rhododendrons and heaths.
