Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A multiple award winner with cascades of dogwood-like 3” blossoms in late spring to early summer. The nodding buds soon open to the most saturated pink in the montana family, and as the flowers age, they soften and lighten in color for a rich tapestry of color and light sweet scent. 'Freda' is unique in that although it is vigorous it does not require estate-like grounds to ramble in, but has a neat, compact habit. Do not bury the stems, but do fertilize and water regularly, and keep the roots cool with mulch. Prune after flowering."
A smaller plant with richer pink flowers than most montanas make Clematis montana Freda quite nice. It received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit! Small Flowered Clematis. Deacon, UK 1985.
