Rosa banksiae 'Lutea' is a fast-growing broadleaf deciduous or semi-evergreen shrub or vine with green foliage. In fall, spring and summer yellow flowers emerge. A standout in early spring, the fully double, 3/4", buttery yellow roses cover this large arching shrub or climbing rose giving the appearance of a yellow spirea or baby's breath. Considered thornless and very disease resistant, this is an easily grown rose. Use it as a large arching shrub at the edge of the yard, or train up a sturdy structure. Grows To: 20' high as a climber, or 6-10' high x 12-15' wide as a shrub Lady Banks' Roses are easy to grow, long-lived garden additions. Whether you choose to grow them as vines laced atop sturdy arbors or as large fountaining shrubs they will provide many years of enjoyment with minimal care once well-established. The Banksia Rose, as it is sometimes called, is basically thornless only rarely producing a cane with 'prickles'. By the way did you know that roses don't actually have 'thorns'? It is generally evergreen down into the teens or lower. The largest rose in the world is considered to be a White Lady Banks' Rose in Tombstone, Arizona that is reputed to cover 9000 square feet! Once well-established, the Banksia Roses require very minimal care except to train the periodic wayward canes when they are being grown up arbors, trellises, and along fences. Any pruning should be done immediately after flowering. For the best flowering provide 6 or preferably 8 or more hours of direct sunlight per day.
