Blue flag iris is an easy to grow and under-rated garden plant. Bold, upright, blue-green, sword-shaped foliage emerges in spring and stays clean through the summer. Flowers range in color from lavender to blue-purple and emerge in late-May to early-June. Found growing in sandy to rich soils that are wet but it's equally at home in average garden soils. Grown from seed collected in Vilas Co. Wisconsin which is USDA hardiness zone 3, these are extremely hardy!
Blue Flag Iris grows to form nice patches of deep blue flowers and is excellent for naturalizing around ponds, lakeshores, and low, wet areas.Very attractive to hummingbirds, Iris versicolor looks great when potted and sunk into wetland ponds and water gardens. Hardy to Zones 3 - 6.
