The much-loved Sugar Maple is a large and splendid shade tree growing 50-80' tall, the lush green distinctly-lobed leaves develop the rich golden-orange fall color that gives New England much of its legendary autumn color; not only a beautiful addition to the landscape but also the source of our treasured maple syrup! The sugar maple is, of course, THE iconic maple, few are more beautiful when mature, and with magnificent yellow-orange-red fall color second to none. Also, of course, you can drill holes in it, extract the sap, boil it down, and pour it over pancakes like some sort of tree vampire if you wish. Best in climates with cooler summers. Zone 3
