Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Hibiscus syriacus 'Blue Bird' is considered the best blue-flowered rose of Sharon. Large flowers are single, violet-blue and vase-shaped with dark reddish-purple eyes and creamy centres surrounded by dark green foliage. Blooms from midsummer to frost with an upright growth habit of 6-8 feet tall and 6 feet wide. Slow to emerge in the spring, hardy and easy care. Prefers acidic, well drained soil in full to part sun. Prune for size in spring. Plant in shrub borders, as foundation plants, hedges or screens. Pollinator attractor. Deer resistant.
The huge violet-blue flowers of this 6-8' shrub with their maroon eye and veins look like something from the tropics! when they appear during late summer; grown for over 100 years and still ?the best single blue? (Hillier). S/M
Sky blue flowers 5" in diameter have a small red throat.
