Formerly Polygonum cuspidatum, now Fallopia japonica 'Variegata' Japanese knot weed. A big, dramatic, plant 5-6 feet tall, with stems that look like bamboo and frothy masses of tiny white flowers in summer, with leaves splashed liberally with white. The straight species is extremely invasive, and there seem to be two different variegated forms out there, one that is an aggressive spreader, and then this one, which hasn't spread much at all for us. Tough to the point of fault, can take sun to fairly deep shade. Zone 4
Japanese Fleece Flower is a bushy semi-vining perennial with stunning green leaves splashed white. Pinkish coral new growth on pink stems. This variety remains controlled and does not spread wildly. The eye catching variegated foliage is excellent as a cut in arrangements. Grows 36-40" tall. Hardy zone 5-9. Part shade.
To provide a dense tough cover of handsome foliage splashed with cream for a large difficult site or confined area this vigorous, spreading 4-6 ft plant is perfect... but it's NOT for the border! Sun/Med
