Funnel shaped, this fern is usually deciduous, dying back with cooler weather. Fronds are broadly triangular to lance shaped and dark green. Midribs and stalks are covered in dark brown scales.

This European to Asian fern is deep green and will have the pinnae rolled inwards, making a neat plant for the woodland garden. Doesn't like hot, dry conditions but is a good plant for the northwest or northeast climate.
